Who Owns What

As organizations grow and staff change over time, keeping track of who is in charge of what becomes a real challenge.

School leaders must navigate an ever-changing landscape of compliance and reporting responsibilities while also undertaking the substantial tasks of preparing the next generation.

As charter school operators, we know that thousands of tasks, big and small, must occur during the school year. Assigning those tasks strategically and developing procedures to ensure those tasks take place is critical to running a sustainable charter school.

The WOW (Who Owns What) process was developed to help school leaders take control of their operations and academics. The goal of the activity is to re-organize and strategically assign duties and tasks within operations, HR, finance, and/or academic departments.

At the end of this activity, your team will have

  1. A clear understanding of who is responsible for what (strategically assigned)

  2. A comprehensive list of school tasks and compliance items

  3. Polished job descriptions for each team member

  4. Updated org chart

  5. Strategies to minimize the impact of staffing changes

  6. Built-in operational checks and balances

This process aims to establish a well-organized and cohesive environment where each team member fully understands their expectations and how they function in the greater system. The result is a calm and stable department ready to serve its community.

Performance Evaluations

This allows leaders to monitor employee performance, set clear performance expectations, and provide bonuses/incentives tied to objective data.
